Watched movie #140 The Darkest Minds. After a disease causes children to either die or develop powerful new abilities, they are seen as a threat to the government, so the children are sent to camps. Sixteen year old Ruby escapes and joins other runaways who are looking for a safe haven, and learns that they must join together to fight the adults who want to kill them. This movie was good, but not great. It has the same basic story line as all the other young adult science fiction stories that take place in a dystopian future. It’s based on young adult trilogy novels. Although the basic storyline is there, it was a fun and interesting story. Its target audience is young adults, who will probably love the movie and ignore the similarities to movies like divergent and the maze runner. The violence was a little more graphic than other teen movies, but its still rated PG 13. If you liked the divergence and maze runner movies, you will probably love this one too.
